SSG Landers coach Lee Soo-yong greatly regretted Choo Shin-soo's injury.

Coach Lee talked about Choo Shin-soo ahead of the 2024 professional baseball KBO League regular season away game against the LG Twins at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul on the 8th.

Choo, who had a batting average of 0.2752 with 218 homers, 782 RBIs and 157 steals in 1,652 games played in the U.S. Major League Baseball from 2006 to 2020, has been active in the SSG since the 2021 season. He had a batting average of 0.260 with 49 homers and 168 RBIs in 361 games played in the KBO league through last year.

However, due to pain in his right shoulder, he was removed from the roster of the first team on Tuesday. The result of the detailed examination shows damage to the right rotator cuff.

The head coach expressed regret over this. This is because Choo knows his mind better than anyone else and he is a leader who can console the team.

Coach Lee Soo-yong said, "(In the meantime) Shinsu has kept the team at the center. In areas such as base learning, Shinsu moved well before I moved. What he thought, what he said, and what he was pursuing were almost 100 percent consistent. "I moved on my own," he said. "Just like me, Shinsu also thought that I should never play the head play and baserunning role poorly." He also went to Guillermo Heredia (foreign batter) and gave her advice. I think Shinsu's role as a leader was really big. That's why it is more heartbreaking and heavy for the coach."

Notably, Choo declared this season as the last year of his career. He sweated a lot during the off-season for "The Last Dance," but had to take a break due to injury.

"It's very unfortunate from the coach's point of view. As a captain, I prepared so well, and I had a great desire to send him a good one. I feel heavy because I have an injury. All the other players were hurt the same way, but Shinsu means it's the last dance," Lee said. "I'm sure he was hurt a lot, too. I'm sure he kept that in mind. Even though we kept talking about it, he expressed a lot that he would do it. That's why I feel a bit heavier. It hurt a lot, and it must have been hard to lead the players as a captain, but I felt a bit (unfortunate) about it." "I think (the injury) was accumulated. Shinsu does not express himself when he is in pain, but tries to take care of everything himself. I came without knowing (the injury) and I think I endured it and did it. I kept saying it was a little bit bad or bad, but I thought it would be difficult for me to take an MRI," Lee said. "As a player who endured so many things from the Minor League to the Major League, I think I did it because I had the mental capacity to endure most of them."

Choo's return is expected to take at least four weeks. "(Choo's) rehabilitation period is expected to take about four weeks. We will review his return schedule after a re-examination four weeks later," SSG said.

"I think we need to take the treatment first and wait and see how it progresses. I can't tell you anything at the moment," Lee said. "I need to take some time while taking the treatment. I think I need to take some treatment for at least a month. I think I need to do MRI again and move on gradually."

Drew Anderson, Robert Duggar's substitute foreign pitcher, is scheduled to make his debut in the match against the KIA Tigers in Gwangju on Wednesday. Originally, he was scheduled to take the mound once in a practice match on Saturday, but it was canceled due to rain. Lee said, "The plan is to build up the team through actual matches.토토

"As of now, it's Friday (May 10)," Lee said of Anderson's pitching timing. "We continue to discuss how to adjust the number of pitches we pitch (laughs). We have to continue building up anyway. Let's do it as soon as possible," he told Anderson. "I told him to check his condition well. It's been a while since he threw, but I think it will be fun." He will play at the match against Kia on Friday. "It's important to learn the sense of the game quickly."

"I threw a bullpen session and conducted the final inspection today. I will increase the number of pitches by 10 starting Friday," Lee said. "I think the starting pitchers will be able to throw more than 80 pitches from June."

Meanwhile, SSG formed a starting lineup with Jihoon Choi (middle fielder), Park Sung-han (striker), Choi Jeong (third baseman), Lydia (left fielder), Ko Myung-jun (first baseman), Jeon Eui-san (designated hitter), Ha Jae-hoon (right fielder), Jung Joon-jae (second baseman) and Cho Hyung-woo (catcher) along with pitcher Oh Won-seok.
