Last year's American League East champion Baltimore Orioles faced a bad news ahead of the start of spring training.

Two key starters have been injured, forcing them to miss early in the season. They are right-hander Kyle Bradish and left-hander zone average.

Baltimore general manager Mike Alliers said on the 16th (Korea time), the first day of spring training in Sarasota, Florida, that "Brady will start this season on the injured list (IL) due to an elbow injury. Sudan is also about a month apart."

Brady pitched 168 innings of ⅔ in 30 games last year, ranking fourth in voting for the AL Cy Young Award with a 12-7 record, a 2.83 ERA and 168 strikeouts. Making his major league debut in 2022, he became a first-team starter in just a year, with 117 innings of ⅔, 4-7 record and a 4.90 ERA in 23 games.

Bradish injured his right elbow ligament last month while working out his strength. He has been recovering from an autologous blood therapy (PRP) injection, but he will need Tommy John surgery if he ruptures the injury.

Elias said, "I hope you can come back soon. I am feeling very well now. I will start my rehabilitation pitching tomorrow. All signs are going in a good direction," but added, "But I am not in a situation where I can say when I will take the mound in the Major League."

The Baltimore Sun, a leading Baltimore media outlet, said, "UCL (spinal collateral ligament) injury is a fatal sign for Brady." He said, "It is unclear how serious the injury is, but general manager Elias is describing it as a sprain, not a partial rupture."

"I hate it when pitchers say they hurt their elbows, shoulders and wrists these days. There are a lot of pitchers who get PRP injections instead of surgery. I hope Brady can, too," Elias said. "They say they don't need surgery.

Sudan had Tommy John surgery in 2022 and returned last September. However, an elbow injury kept Dozier off the list of the Division Series against the Texas Rangers.

As a result, Minns' training has been delayed by about a month compared to the previous year. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation pitching and is expected to continue his training for about a month in April. Elias said, "Minns is in good condition now. He had a lot to do with his elbow last year, and we will look at the overall recovery process."

Tyler Wells and Cole Irvin are expected to join the rotation with two starters missing. Baltimore brought in Milwaukee Brewers ace and 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burns in a trade on the 2nd. Burns is the starting pitcher for the season opener.
