Japan defeats Iraq to advance to Asian Cup finals; Indonesia loses 0-2 to Uzbekistan in semifinals

Japanese soccer succeeded in participating in the Olympics for the 8th time in a row and for the 12th time in total.

The Japan U-23 national soccer team advanced to the finals by beating Iraq 2-0 in the semifinals of the U-23 Asian Cup held in Doha, Qatar on the 30th. With this victory, Japan earned a ticket to the Paris Olympics.

Japan, who lost 0-1 to Korea in the group stage of this tournament, defeated the host country Qatar 4-2 in the quarterfinals and advanced to the finals by defeating Iraq in the semifinals. Japan's opponent in the final is Uzbekistan. The finals between the two teams will be held at 0:30 on the 4th. Uzbekistan advanced to the finals with a 2-0 win over Indonesia under coach Shin Tae-yong, advancing to the Olympic finals for the first time in history. Japan and Uzbekistan faced each other in the semifinals of the 2022 U-23 Asian Cup, and Uzbekistan won 2-0.

Although Indonesia lost to Uzbekistan and failed to advance to the finals, there is still a possibility of participating in the Olympics. The 1st to 3rd place teams in this competition, which was held as an Asian qualifier for the Paris Olympics, will receive a direct ticket to Paris. If Indonesia wins the 3rd and 4th place match against Iraq on the 3rd, it will go to Paris. Even if we lose to Iraq, we have one more chance. The fourth-place team will play an intercontinental playoff against Guinea in Africa, and if they win, they can advance to the Olympics. Indonesian soccer is attempting to participate in the Olympics for the first time in 68 years since the 1956 Melbourne Games. Coach Shin said at a press conference after losing to Uzbekistan, “There are still opportunities. “Indonesia will definitely participate in the Paris Olympics because we believe in our athletes,” he said. 사설토토
