The Medi Hill and Hankook Ilbo Championship (total prize money of 1 billion won), the fourth competition of the 2024 season of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour, will be held at the Incheon Club 72 Country Club Sky Course (par 72) for four days from the 11th.
Jung Yoon-ji, who is aiming for her second KLPGA Tour victory, reduced six strokes on the second day of the tournament to tie for the lead (11 under par in total).
In an interview after the second round match, Jung Yoon-ji expressed satisfaction, saying, "I feel refreshed because I finished with a good score after a long time."
At the same time, Jung added, "I think everything was good. I liked the combination of shots and putts."
Asked if he had played well at Club 72 Sky Course, Jung Yoon-ji replied, "I don't remember playing particularly well," adding, "I didn't feel good, especially when I played in the tournament here last year."
On the condition of the course, Jung said, "The green is in really good condition. The speed is good, and I think it's the green that the players like."
Jung Yoon-ji, who did not go to training last winter, explained, "I really rested well in Korea, and I went to Thailand for a round for two weeks in February. While doing rounds in Thailand, my sense of practice improved, and I practiced putting and short games intensively."
Regarding the reason for not going to off-season training, Jung Yoon-ji said, "Last year, I started training immediately after the season ended without taking a break, and my physical strength was depleted before the start of the season, and it was difficult during the season," adding, "This time, I thought, 'Let's rest as much as we want to rest in the off-season."
"I'm satisfied. I wanted to enjoy golf while taking a break during the off-season," Jung said. "It's good to set goals and work hard, but if I stick to them and be greedy, I think I'll be physically and mentally exhausted if I fail to achieve my goals. It was difficult and I thought that if I let go of it, I could go on the tour longer."
Also, as for this year's goal, Jung said, "It's my second career win that I didn't achieve last year."
Jung Yoon-ji expressed confidence in the rest of the round, saying, "I think if I focus on the moment and discuss and play with my caddie, I think I will get good results."
Next, Jung Yoon-ji said, "The season has just begun, but I'm happy that the results came out well yesterday and today. I hope we have good results for the remaining two days, and I'll try not to feel too bad even if it doesn't come out."
