RBI single to end the 10th inning of a no-hitter

The South Korean National Baseball Team has opened its campaign at the 2023 Asian Professional Baseball Championship [1] with a win.

South Korea came from behind to beat Japan 3-2 in the bottom of the 10th inning on a walk-off RBI single by Noh Si-hwan in the first game of the tournament's preliminary round at the Tokyo Dome in Japan on Saturday.

The tournament, founded in 2017, was scheduled to host its second edition in 2021, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will be held for the first time in six years.

The roster is comprised of 26 players who are 24 years old or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 1999) or in their third year of professional play, plus three wild card players.

Korea was looking to rebound from a 7-8 loss to Australia at the World Baseball Classic [2] in March.

Moon Dong-ju (Hanwha) pitched 5⅔ innings, allowing two runs on five hits (one home run) with four walks and five strikeouts to lay the foundation for the victory.

Noh Si-hwan (Hanwha) hit a game-winning RBI single with runners on first and second in the bottom of the 10th inning.

South Korea will try to make it two in a row against Japan at 7 p.m. on May 17.

Moon Dong-joo gave up a run in the top of the first inning when his control faltered. After giving up a walk to Liam Spence, a wild pitch and a hit-by-pitch put runners on second and third. He then gave up a single to Clayton Campbell to score a run.

Moon gave up back-to-back singles to Brilly Knight and Spence two batters later. However, right fielder Yoon Dong-hee (Lotte) made an accurate throw to catch Knight at third base to end the threat.

Korea fought back in the bottom of the second inning, putting runners on first and second with an infield single by Moon Hyun-bin (Hanwha) and a walk by Na Seung-yeop (Lotte), then tying the game with a single by Kim Hyung-jun (NC).

However, with one out, Kim Hye-sung (Kiwoom) and Choi Ji-hoon (SSG) were both retired on infield grounders to end the threat.

In the third inning, South Korea put runners on first and second with no outs thanks to an infield error and a throwing error. However, the next three batters were retired on strikes to end the threat.

However, South Korea regained the lead in the sixth inning when leadoff hitter Alex Hall hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to 1-2.

After stranding runners in scoring position in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, South Korea lost the lead again in the top of the sixth when Alex Hall hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to 1-2.

South Korea had runners on first and second in the top of the seventh, but Moon Hyun-bin struck out to end the threat.

With the Aussies trailing late in the game, South Korea had another chance in the eighth when Kim Do-young led off with a double. Two batters later, Kim walked and it looked like the chance was gone again. However, Kim Joo-won (NC) tied the game with a single. Kim was then called out on a wild pitch.

The game went into extra innings. This time, the tournament went into a shootout, with runners on first and second base in the 10th inning.

In the top of the inning, Jung struck out the leadoff batter, Campbell, and then struck out the next batter to end the threat.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the 10th inning, Noh Si-hwan singled with runners on first and second to end the game. 스포츠토토맨
