Ulsan wins back-to-back league titles with 60 percent of possessions for second straight year Daegu advances to Final A with a 30 percent share

In professional soccer's K League 1, there is a polarizing trend in possession. Teams are increasingly leading attacks while possessing the ball, but Daegu FC, which specializes in counterattacking, is also showing its power.

According to the November issue of TSG, published by the Korea Professional Football Association on the 16th, Ulsan, which won its second consecutive league title last year and again this year, had a share in the 60s for the second year in a row. This is the highest share of any league winner in history.

Pohang, currently ranked second in the league (55.8%), is also a team that dominates play with ball possession. Third-place Gwangju FC, which took the K League by storm this year, also plays a ball-possession-heavy game and has 54.5% possession.

On the other hand, there is a team that has one of the lowest possession rates in the history of professional soccer and still manages to get results.

Daegu FC, led by Choi Won-kwon, was the lowest possession team last season with 40.4% possession. This year, it's even lower. Daegu is the only team in the 30s this season with a 34.9% possession rate. Despite this, they made it to Final A, where the top six teams compete.

Daegu's ability to capitalize on their few counterattack opportunities and win game after game has earned them the nickname "click soccer," referring to their ability to score goals with a single click. "As more teams try to take control of the game, they have adopted a more extreme stance of not possessing the ball," the league said, adding, "Daegu's counterattacking football this season is more colorful than ever."

This polarization of possession is also seen in the English Premier League, the world's most popular league.

Roberto De Zervi's Brighton (59.1%) and Enzi Postecoglou's Tottenham (61.7%) are the most prominent possession teams. Pep Guardiola's Manchester City and Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool, two teams synonymous with possession soccer, also boast high possession rates.

However, six of the 20 Premier League teams have 45% or less possession. This is the most in the last five seasons. Luton Town, Nottingham, and Sheffield Wednesday are all playing extreme top-down soccer, with possession in the low 30s.

"We are seeing a polarization of possession, with teams emphasizing high possession. "It's not just about high tempo anymore, it's about the polarization of possession in line with the modern game," the federation said. 슬롯사이트
