After her first win of the season Lowered ERA to 4.00

'Korean Monster' Ryu Hyun-jin, 36, has been sidelined after being hit in the knee by a pitch in his second game back.

Ryu threw four innings of one-hit, one-strikeout baseball against the Cleveland Giants in the 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, on Aug. 8.

Ryu, who underwent elbow surgery last year, made his comeback against the Baltimore Orioles on Feb. 2 and took the loss after giving up four runs in five innings.

However, he received somewhat positive reviews as his velocity increased with each passing inning on the first day.

In his second start, Ryu mixed a 92-mph (148-kilometer) fastball with a changeup and curveball, backed up by excellent command.

After retiring Stuart Kwan on two pitches in the first inning, Ryu induced a grounder to shortstop against the next batter, Andres Jimenez.

Toronto shortstop Paul DeJongh made a lazy throw to first base and was ruled safe. However, Toronto requested a video review and got the call overturned.

Ryu induced the next batter, Jose Ramirez, to hit a straight pitch. Ryu dropped the hard-hit ball and quickly threw to first base to end the inning with a triple play.

In the second inning, Ryu used his fastball and changeup combination to keep the batters at bay, most notably inducing a wild swing with his offspeed changeup against Gabriel Arias two batters later.

Maintaining his command of his pitches, Ryu induced a double play in the third inning with a low fastball. After striking out Brayan Rocchio, he got Miles Straw and Bo Naylor to fly out to center field to keep the scoreless streak alive.

Ryu gave up a walk to Jimenez with one out in the fourth. A bad call by the umpire gave him his first hit of the night.

After getting Ramirez on a fly ball to right field, he walked Gonzalez. However, Ryu was hit in the right knee by a 98-mph (158-kilometer) fastball from Gonzalez and fell to the ground.

Ryu was helped off the mound after the fourth inning. His pitch count was 52 (34 strikes).

Ryu will have to wait until next time to get his first win. He lowered his season ERA to 4.00.

Toronto was tied at 0-0 in the top of the fifth inning. 스포츠토토
