The "Korean Monster" Ryu Hyun-jin (36, Toronto Blue Jays) has become the second South Korean player in history to surpass 900 career strikeouts in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Ryu reached the milestone on Aug. 8 (Korea time), starting the 2023 MLB Baseball Classic against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

Ryu, who had 899 career strikeouts in the big leagues prior to this game, reached the 900-strikeout milestone when he struck out Gabriel Arias on a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning, tied 0-0.

After his fastball turned into a ball, Ryu threw three consecutive changeups to induce a swinging strike.

Ryu is the second Korean player to reach 900 career strikeouts in MLB, joining Chan Ho Park. In 17 seasons in the big leagues, Chan Ho Park has 1,715 career strikeouts.

Ryu, who debuted in the big leagues in 2013, recorded the most strikeouts in a single season in 2019, when he struck out 163 batters in 29 games.

Ryu Hyun-jin struck out 1238 batters between 2006 and 2012 when he played for the Hanwha Eagles in the KBO. He has more than 2,100 strikeouts in his Korean-American career.

Ryu also struck out leadoff hitter Brayan Rocchio in the bottom of the third inning. 카지노사이트
