The top 16 players participate in the 'King of Kings Battle' and win the WT World Grand Prix Final by defeating Tokyo Olympics No. 3 ranked in weight class.

Seo Geon-woo (20, Korea National Sport University) reached the top of the men's 80kg division at the World Taekwondo Federation (WT) World Grand Prix Final. This is the first time that a Korean athlete has won this competition and this weight class. The WT World Grand Prix Final is a season-ending competition and is a ‘king of kings’ type stage where only the top 16 Olympic rankings in each weight class participate.

Seo Geon-woo won the gold medal by defeating Safe Eisa (25, Egypt) with a round score of 2-1 (4-12, 15-2, 22-13) in the men's 80kg class final at the 2023 WT World Grand Prix Final held in Manchester, England on the 3rd. I bet on. Eisa, a bronze medalist at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, is ranked third in her weight class. Seo Geon-woo previously defeated defending champion Simone Alessio (Italy) in the quarterfinals and Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Salih Alsharabati (Jordan) 2-1 in the semifinals. Seo Geon-woo missed out on the gold medal by losing 1-2 to Alessio in the finals of last year's competition, but this time he took revenge. Alessio is currently ranked number one in this weight class. Seo Geon-woo said, “Winning the World Grand Prix Final was a result I didn’t expect,” but added, “I practiced so much that other players were scared when they trained with me.”

Seo Geon-woo also won the right to participate in the men's 80kg class at the Paris Olympics next year. This is the first time that a Korean athlete competes in this weight class at the Olympics. Seo Geon-woo, who was ranked 9th in the Olympic rankings, added 100 ranking points by winning this tournament and rose to 4th place. Each country with the top five rankings in each weight class will receive one ticket to the Olympic finals. This competition was the last opportunity to accumulate ranking points to qualify for this event.

Korea is the home of Taekwondo, but the men's 80kg weight class was virtually barren. This is a weight class that has never qualified for the Olympic finals from the 2000 Sydney Games, when Taekwondo was adopted as an official Olympic sport, to the 2021 Tokyo Games. Park Woo-hyuk (23, Samsung S-One) won the men's 80kg class at this year's Hangzhou Asian Games, which was his first gold medal in 21 years.

Seo Geon-woo said, “I still can’t believe that I will be participating in the Olympics, but I feel really good.” He expressed his determination, saying, “Now that I am participating in the Olympics, I will prepare with the goal of winning a gold medal.” 슬롯사이트
