Concerns have eventually become a reality. It seems that the shortstop who came down from the mountain finally follows the same path.

The Boston Red Sox recently had some painful news. Shortstop Trevor Story was injured. Story injured his left shoulder while trying to make a diving catch against the Los Angeles Angels on Apr. 6.

Left shoulder glenoid fracture. There's a good chance Story will close out the season on the operating table. Recovery is expected to take about six months. It's not easy to come back during the regular season. Boston may think about making the postseason and joining the team in the fall, but it should be viewed as a de facto season out, considering actual performance and more.

It's already been three years. Storey missed his third straight year with a major injury. In 2022, he missed more than a month with right and left heel injuries and played in just 94 regular-season games. In the 2023 season, he missed about four months with an elbow injury, appearing in just 43 regular-season games. And this season, he was hurt after eight games, making him likely out for the season.

In the last three years, Story has only played 145 games in the major leagues, and these are the three years I spent in Boston.

Story signed a six-year, $140 million free agent contract with Boston ahead of the 2022 season. At the time, Story, Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, and Marcus Semien made inroads, and Story was highly regarded in the free agent market, which was a "good year for the shortstop," so he wore a Boston uniform.

Story was such an accomplished player that he matched Correa, Seager and Semien. Born Shortstop in 1992, Story, who was drafted by the Colorado Rockies with the 45th overall pick in the 2011 rookie draft, made a big impression on his big league debut in 2016.

He hit multiple home runs off Jack Greinke (then ARI) in his big league debut in 2016, becoming the first player to hit two home runs in his opening game since 1900. Story also hit home runs in his second and third games, respectively. He had one hit each, becoming the first player in his big league debut where all of his first four hits were home runs. And he hit four consecutive home runs in his debut, making him the first rookie in history to hit home runs in all four games in his debut.

Story, who made his debut by writing "Home Run Story," showed off his tremendous batting performance as a Colorado player who uses Coors Field as his home ground. Story, who only played 97 games in his debut season due to a finger injury, finished fourth with 27 home runs and an OPS of 0.909 in the 2017 season, but showed his best offense with 37 home runs in the 2018 season, 0.914, 35 home runs in the 2019 season, and an OPS of 0.917. He has established himself as a shortstop.
