Scherzer: “I look forward to getting on the mound again next summer.”

Max Scherzer (39, Texas Rangers) has undergone back surgery and is expected to return to the mound in the middle of next season.

MLB.com reported the news of Scherzer's surgery on the 16th (Korean time).

Texas general manager Chris Young said, “Scherzer underwent lumbar disc surgery. He had previously received treatment for back pain several times, but the pain did not go away.”

General Manager Young expected Scherzer's season to start in June or July of next year at the earliest.

Texas acquired Scherzer in a trade with the New York Mets in late July. Scherzer recorded 4 wins, 2 losses, and an average ERA of 3.20 in 8 games after transferring to Texas.

However, in mid-September, near the end of the season, he was placed on the injured list (IL) due to pain in his right shoulder and arm. After taking a month off, Scherzer returned during the team's postseason, but was unable to complete even this due to injury.

Sherzer, who started Game 3 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, pitched three scoreless innings before being forced out early due to back pain. He was ultimately left out of the World Series entry before Game 5.

Texas won the World Series after many twists and turns, but Scherzer will not be able to start next season with him. I was faced with the big task of filling the gap in the selection process.

Scherzer said, “After returning home to Florida after the season, my back pain continued to get worse. During this time, he was diagnosed with a herniated disc in his back. “After several treatments and consultations, he decided to undergo surgery,” he said. “I am focusing on rehabilitation and looking forward to being able to get on the mound again next summer.”

Sherzer, who debuted in the Major League in 2008, played for Arizona, the Detroit Tigers, the Washington Nationals, and the Mets, and recorded a career record of 214 wins, 108 losses, and an ERA of 3.15 in 457 games. He won the Cy Young Award, given to the best pitcher in the major leagues, in 2013, 2016, and 2017. 스포츠토토맨
