Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur) is tied for third in the English Premier League with 10 goals as of Wednesday. He has achieved double-digit goals for eight consecutive seasons from the 2016-2017 season, continuing his career as a goaltender representing the EPL. Along with his scoring ability, he has also displayed performance statistics that make Son stand out even more. It is a defense under pressure against opponents.

The International Center for Sports Research (CIES) Football Observer released statistics on "pressure defense of center forwards (frontline strikers) in the five major European leagues." It targeted strikers who played for at least 720 minutes in their league this season, and Son Heung-min ranked first. Son Heung-min played as one-top this season as Tottenham's frontline striker Hisharlisong was sluggish in the early stages of the season.

Son scored 16.2 times per 90 minutes to beat runner-up Maximilian Bayer (Hopenheim) who recorded 13.1 times. Son is also the only striker in the top 10 to score double-digit goals this season. This means that he has contributed a lot to defense, which pressures opponents from the front by scoring many goals.

Center forwards are less likely to participate in defense than other positions and have less pressure even if they defend. It is a modern soccer trend that strikers are increasingly pressing forward, but they also need physical arrangements to play a role in penetrating the opponent's goal.

Harry Kane (Bayern Munich, 21 goals), the top scorer in the German Bundesliga this season, has three compression defenses per 90 minutes, and Kylian Mbappe (Saint-Germain, 18 goals), the top scorer in the French Ligue 1, has 3.3 compression defenses per 90 minutes. Both of them are about one-fifth of Son's. Romelu Lukaku (AS Roma, seven goals), who is fourth in score tally in the Italian Serie A league, has 1.6 compression defenses per 90 minutes, less than one-tenth of Son's.

In this season's EPL, Son ranks sixth (331 times) in terms of the number of times he presses in all different positions including midfielders and defenders. He ranks first in Tottenham. In October, he also ranked first in the EPL by recording 1,314 meters in sprint distance in case of opponent pressure, according to Sky Sports, a British media. These figures show that he is a powerful player even in off-the-ball (when he does not have a ball). 토토사이트

"Son Heung-min's sprint ability is amazing. He played more than any other player in the EPL to put pressure on the opponent," Sky Sports said. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou also highly appreciates Son's off-the-ball movement. "Son Heung-min runs really hard for the sake of his team no matter where he is," Postecoglou said. Son was named Tottenham's player of the year by fans.
