Lee Soo-kwang, former CEO of Dongbu Fire & Marine Insurance, has been appointed as the 11th president of the Korea Basketball Federation (KBL).

KBL held the 29th extraordinary general meeting at the KBL Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 31st and approved Lee Soo-kwang, former CEO recommended by the new governor, Wonju DB, as its next president. Lee will officially start his term as soon as current president Kim Hee-ok leaves office on June 30.

Lee, a former professional manager, plans to listen to public opinion inside and outside the basketball community and set up an executive team including the secretary general and the head of the game division. The new executives will be in charge of working-level management of KBL starting from July after completing the approval process at the general meeting. Lee Soo-kwang, a presidential candidate, served as CEO of Dongbu Fire & Marine Insurance and Dongbu Construction, and has been an auditor of the Kim Joon-ki Cultural Foundation since February this year.

Since 2018, 10 teams have been in charge of KBL in turn. From July 1, DB will be in charge of KBL for three years. KBL was chaired by Ulsan Hyundai Mobis in 2018 and has produced KBL president for the past three years. KBL said Kim introduced an Asian quota system as his entry income totaled 11.4 billion won (14.7 million U.S. dollars) last season, surpassing the 10 billion won mark for the first time.
