Local media Macau Business Daily reported that Francis Louis You Tung, vice chairman of the Galaxy Entertainment Group, told the Chinese-language newspaper Macau Daily that the ongoing downturn in the local gaming industry would not slow down plans to expand Macau's casino and leisure facilities from HK$40 billion to HK$50 billion. The Galaxy opened its second phase, including Broadway, amid dwindling profits surrounding them. The group was allocated only 150 game tables to supplement 250 suites at the new Ritz Carlton and an additional 1,000 rooms at the luxury JW Marriott hotel.

Broadway Macao has added 320 five-star rooms and suites. The hotels were connected by air-conditioned bridges. Banyan Tree Macao, Hotel Okura Macao, and Galaxy Macao hotels were previously opened in the first phase. Galaxy 1 & 2 covers about 1 million square meters.

Construction of Galaxy 3 is expected to begin before the end of 2016 starting with stage 4 next year.

Details of the property expansion were not announced, but the vice chairman said 97 percent of the development is not a game and will be aimed at family guests and MICE (meets, incentives, meetings, events/exhibitions). Mr. Lui also told the outlet that table allocation would not be a significant component of development, and his company was looking at what potential customers would like to use in five years.

Mr Louis said the yet-to-be-completed Hong Kong-Zuhai-Macao Bridge would increase tourism resources and help the local MICE industry, which most analysts say is a crucial factor in Macau's non-gaming economy. According to the report, Galaxy's non-game revenue increased 60 percent year-on-year.
