Tinian regulated the gambling market and celebrated the opening of the island's first casino only six years later. The Tinian Casino Game Control Board is a regulator overseeing the island's business. Tinian approved the gambling framework a long time ago, unlike many other Northern Mariana islands that have a negative attitude toward gambling.
In the past few years, the Tinian gambling industry has suffered a sharp decline due to a lack of tourists, and now the casino industry in Tinian is struggling to regain its lost appeal, and in 2015 it took another hit after imposing a $75 million fine on Tinian Dynamics Hotels & Casinos for anti-money laundering. Since then, Tinian's casino industry has been hit by plans to close all of the railways and reopen them.
Tinian Dynasty Hotels & Casinos Hiding Big Potential Tinian Entertainment (TEC) acquired the closed casino in 2016, but Pinsen explained that the new owner should pay the fine first before the casino reopens, and the new owner seems reluctant to pay the fine, so the casino is now closed, but there is a ray of hope for the reopens.
On Monday, a group of eight Hong Kong investors visited the island to investigate the potential and reopening of Tinian Dynasty Hotels & Casinos. Tinian Entertainment Corporation owner Tim Chen accompanied the group to outline all the benefits of the property and its eventual reopening in front of other potential investors.
In an interview, Mr. Chen said he was one of the creditors of the former management of the Tinian dynasty. He said he was interested in renovating gambling properties, but could not realize his plan due to his $75 million financial obligation to Pinsen.
Mr. Chen added that he had already hired a lawyer in Washington to fix the problem as soon as possible. He explained that the lack of trained personnel may be another problem of resuming casinos. Nevertheless, Mr Chen said the resumption of gambling facilities is hiding great potential because of the recently completed Tinian International Airport Terminal. Chen explained that the 435-room hotel has the potential to turn it into a perfect accommodation for on-coming tourists.
