Last year, I even wondered if that team was the right one. Gangwon FC, led by head coach Yoon Jung-hwan (51), has transformed itself into an offensive team.

The team ranks 10th in the 2023 season and is the lowest in scoring (30 points). This is the report card of Gangwon, which managed to stay in the K-League 1 last year. His defense was not bad, but he had a hard time struggling with his team's offense.

However, Gangwon has changed. It has two wins, three draws and one loss (nine points) this season, ranking fifth in the league. What stands out is its team's score. Kang had 11 goals in six games, tying for second in overall team score. The team scores the same as that of Kimcheon Sang-moo, who has been showing strong performance this season, and the gap is not wide between Ulsan HD (12 points), the leader in this category. It is hard to conclude, but it is a positive sign.

Several star players also made surprise appearances. First of all, Yang Min-hyuk (18), born in 2006, gave a fresh shock from the beginning of the season. Despite his young age, he is still a key member of the team in this season. He played six games and garnered one goal and one assist. In the opening round of the match against Jeju United on March 2, he made a remarkable debut by sending a assist just one minute after the game started. In the second round match against Gwangju FC, he scored his professional debut goal. He also scored his first goal just one minute in the first half. As a result, he became the youngest player in the K-League to score a point since the introduction of the promotion system. This is only the fifth record even before the introduction of the promotion system.

Yang Min-hyuk is currently a high school student. He is a senior at Gangneung Jeil High School, a youth team affiliated with Gangwon Province. As soon as he entered Gangneung Jeil High School in 2022, he played as a key member of the team and scored five goals and one assist in the K-League Junior League, leading the team to win the championship in the electric league. Yang has been gaining experience in the national team by participating in the Under-16 (u-16) youth team, as well as the Under-17 Asian Cup and World Cups. Last year, Kangwon left top-rated star Yang Hyun-joon (Celtic) for a vacancy, which he erased with Yang's appearance.

Gangwon striker Lee Sang-hun (26) also turned his life around. He scored seven goals in six league games this season, ranking first in the scoring category. Among the six games, Lee was the only one Lee failed to score a goal in the match against Hana Citizen in Daejeon on April 16. In April, he scored multiple goals in two consecutive games. He led the team to a 3-0 win at Daegu FC on April 3, and a 3-2 win at Jeonbuk Hyundai on April 7. 토토

Lee has already surpassed his personal record of most goals scored in a single season. When he was with Ulsan, his first professional team, he was pushed out of the competition to become a starting member of the team, and later moved to Busan I'Park in the K League 2. However, Lee only had three goals in 33 games in the 2021 season and seven goals in 31 games in the 2022 season. He lacked playing time even last year. He only played five games. He also had no offensive point. After moving to Gangwon, he made a big reversal. Although he did not receive much attention since his debut as a professional in 2017, he has been displaying a huge goal storm since the beginning of this season. As a result, his team has seen his ranking rise.

Yoon's ability is also highly appreciated. He provided an extraordinary opportunity to Yang Min-hyuk, who was just a teenager, and maximized his offense. Lee has mainly played in the second line, but Lee plays the role of a front-line striker in Gangwon Province. Coach Yoon Jeong-hwan, who has learned about Lee's ability since his days in Ulsan, suggested a new position. Lee Sang-hun also rewarded his expectations.
