Korea, ranked 43rd in FIVB, beat Thailand (ranked 13th in FIVB) by a set score of 3-1 in the fourth game of the first week of the VNL at Maracaranginho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the 20th (Korea time).

With three valuable points, South Korea ranked 14th out of 16 countries, ahead of Thailand and Bulgaria.

It is the first time in about three years and 31 games that Korea has won the VNL stage since the match against Canada on June 15, 2021.

South Korea began losing consecutive games in the last three games of the VNL in 2021, suffered the humiliation of all losses in 2022 (12) and 2023 (12) and were completely defeated in the first three games of the year.

This victory is also the first victory for Fernando Morales (Puerto Rico) since taking over as the head coach of the women's national team.

On this day, Korea had the upper hand over Thailand in blocking matches (12:8) and error management (13:25).

Kang So-hwi (22 points) exploded with the most points scored by both teams, while Jeong Ji-yoon (Hyundai Engineering & Construction) and Park Jung-ah (Pepper Savings Bank) scored 16 points each.

Middle blockers Lee Ju-ah (IBK Industrial Bank) and Lee Da-hyun (Hyundai Engineering & Construction) were responsible for 11 points and 8 points, including 5 blocks and 2 blocks, respectively.

Kim Da-in (Hyundai Engineering & Construction) and Han Da-hye (Pepper Savings Bank) contributed to the victory.

After finishing the first week of the competition fresh, South Korea will move to Arlington, Texas, the U.S., to play the second week of the competition from the 30th.
