KIA pitcher Yoon Young-chul (20) has an average fastball speed of 138.4 kilometers per hour this season. Kiwoom pitcher Kim In-beom (24) also has an average speed of only 137.3 kilometers. Yoon and Kim, who are confidently fighting for the starting pitcher position in the professional league with speed of less than 140 kilometers per hour, are playing as the fifth starting pitcher in their team, shouting "fighting with control rather than ball control." Yoon has three wins and no loss in five games, 3.62 ERA, and Kim has one loss and 0.59 ERA in seven games. Yoon has emphasized the importance of controlling the ball since his debut last season. "It is useless if you cannot control the ball no matter how fast it is," he said, adding that he has no desire to raise the ball speed.

Yoon pitched a total of 150 innings (as of Friday) and gave up just 62 walks. The number is significantly lower than that of Lee Eui-ri, a senior player in his team who is famous for his fast speed, who gave up 253 walks during 390 innings. Since he does not give up free base, he saves the number of pitches and reduces the number of runs lost. 안전놀이터

Kim In-beom also tries to overcome the limitations of his ball control and make a fight with his ball control. "Since I am not fast in ball control, I try to throw various breaking balls to the left and right sides of the strike zone as much as possible. And I keep throwing while thinking about the number fight to take the timing of the batter," Kim In-beom said.

Kim threw fastballs, sliders, forks, and two-seam evenly, taking away the timing of the opponent batter. In the game against Samsung on Wednesday, Kim caught hitters off guard with his sharp control and clever ball combination that poked corners while striking out Ryu Ji-hyuk and Kim Young-woong in succession in the top of the second inning. In other words, he is a smart pitcher who overcame his limitations and found his own way.

Kim In-beom, who joined Nexen (currently Kiwoom) in 2019 in the second and fourth rounds, continued his scoreless streak until the 21st since he first stepped on the first team stage in 2021. Although he did not appear in many games, he lasted 19.2 scoreless innings. This is the most consecutive scoreless innings since his KBO league debut, exceeding the 18 innings Cho Yong-joon (then Hyundai) achieved in 2002.
