MLB Secretariat "The increase in restraint and ball turnover is directly caused by…No evidence of pitch clock association"

Tony Clark, secretary-general of the Major League Baseball MLBPA, strongly criticized that the recent series of injuries to Major League Baseball MLB pitchers is due to the reduced pitch clock measurement of pitching intervals.

According to the Associated Press, Secretary-General Clark said in a statement issued on the 7th, "The MLB Secretariat reduced the pitch clock measurement time in December last year despite the players' full opposition and serious health and safety concerns," adding, "Our concern about the health impact of the reduction of recovery time has grown."

"The MLB Secretariat's behavior of not knowing or trying to study the effects of such a huge change has become an unprecedented threat to baseball and its biggest asset, players," he said.

MLB introduced a pitch clock that throws the ball to the batter within 15 seconds when there is no runner and within 20 seconds when there is a runner, which greatly reduced the game time.

The average playing time in regular innings 9 innings decreased by 24 minutes to 2 hours and 40 minutes, the shortest since 1985.

The MLB Game Committee, which consists of 11 players, including six team representatives, four player representatives and one referee, is likely to decide opinions as the MLB Secretariat and the club decide, further reduced the pitch clock time from 20 seconds to 18 seconds when all four players were against it in December last year.

The MLB players' union claimed that each team's main starting pitchers were groaning with string injuries at the beginning of the season as a result.

Shane Bieber of the Cleveland Guardians, the winner of the 2020 American League Cy Young Award, is expected to end this season due to elbow ligament surgery. New York Yankees right-hander Jonathan Loaisi also has elbow surgery and cannot play for more than 12 months.

Atlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Strider also decided to undergo an additional detailed examination due to damage to the inner ligament of his right elbow. 안전놀이터

The MLB secretariat immediately countered, "MLBPA's statement overlooks decades of empirical data that increases in ball speed and speed are closely related to pitchers' injuries," adding, "We are currently investigating the cause of the increase in pitchers' injuries, and there is no evidence that the pitch clock is directly related to this."
