"Moon Dong-ju 157km Season Finale" Hanwha's No. 1 LG and spicy taste again...8 consecutive losses followed by 2 consecutive wins

Hanwha beat the leader LG for two consecutive days and won a valuable winning series. With starter Moon Dong-ju making his last appearance of the season, bullpen pitchers' good pitching was brilliant. At the batter's box, Roh Si-hwan's long shot, which recorded his first 30 home runs the previous day, stood out.

The Hanwha Eagles won 5-3 against the LG Twins in the '2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League' at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on the 3rd.

Hanwha, which caught LG for the second day in a row, won the Winning Series by finishing three consecutive weekend games against LG with two wins and one loss. The season record is 44 wins, 61 losses and 6 draws. It is still ranked 10th. LG, which lost two consecutive games to Hanwha, recorded 67 wins, 43 losses and two draws. Although they lost consecutive games, they held on to the top spot.

On this day, LG put on Lim Chan-kyu and Hanwha put on Moon Dong-joo as the starting pitcher.

LG made up the first to ninth batting order with Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Shin Min-jae (second baseman), Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter), Austin Dean (first baseman), Moon Bo-kyung (third baseman), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Park Dong-won (catcher), Moon Sung-joo (left fielder), and Park Hae-min (center fielder).

Hanwha's starting batting order was composed of Jung Eun-won (second baseman), Lee Jin-young (right fielder), Noh Si-hwan (third baseman), Chae Eun-sung (designated hitter), Kim Tae-yeon (first baseman), Choi In-ho (left fielder), Jang Jin-hyuk (center fielder), Choi Jae-hoon (catcher), and Lee Do-yoon (striker).

There was a slight change in LG's first division entry. LG, which excluded 'giant prospect' Lee Jae-won from the first division entry, registered outfielder Ahn Ik-hoon in the empty spot. Ahn Ik-hoon was named in the first division entry for the first time this year.

Hanwha starter Moon Dong-ju took the final mound of the season. Initially, Hanwha set a limit of 120 innings for the season to manage Moon Dong-ju, a 20-year-old promising player. Moon Dong-ju, who played 114 ⅓ innings before the game, stepped down with 11 hits, two walks, two strikeouts and three runs left in four ⅓ innings, ending the season with 118 ⅔, just short of 120 innings. Moon's maximum speed was 157 kilometers.

In the future, Moon Dong-ju will join the national team at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games at the end of this month after adjusting his condition in Seosan, where Hanwha's second-tier training ground is located. In addition, Moon Dong-ju is also on the preliminary list of the 2023 national team at the Asian Professional Baseball Championship (APBC) and is likely to play for the national team in November.

The two teams engaged in a fierce battle from the beginning of the game. Hanwha succeeded in getting on base with a walk after two outs in the top of the first inning, but there was no income as Chae Eun-sung stepped down as a center fielder flyout. On the other hand, LG got off to a good start with one point in the attack in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Hong Chang-ki got on base with a heavy hit, and Kim Hyun-soo hit a right-handed hit to continue the flow after one out. Austin only had a shortstop in-field flyout, but Moon Bo-kyung hit a timely hit to the right, allowing second baseman Hong Chang-ki to score and LG to win one point first. LG continued its chance with two outs with Oh Ji-hwan's walk, but there was no additional score as Park Dong-won stepped down with a groundout to third base.

Hanwha has also begun to move. In the top of the second inning, leadoff hitter Kim Tae-yeon opened with a right-handed hit, and right fielder Hong Chang-ki failed to catch Choi In-ho's hit, leading to a triple, leading Hanwha to a 1-1 tie. Jang Jin-hyuk's hit led to first baseman Austin's catch error, and third baseman Choi In-ho scored, and Hanwha, which turned the game around 2-1, continued its chance with one out and second base with Choi Jae-hoon's sacrifice bunt, and Lee Do-yoon exploded a timely double to the right and succeeded in running 3-1.

After Jung Eun-won walked, Lee Jin-young struck out swinging, but Roh Si-hwan hit a timely double that directly hit the middle fence, and two runners scored. It was the moment when Hanwha widened the gap to 5-1.

LG is also chasing. In the bottom of the second inning, LG was driven by Moon Sung-joo's flyout to third baseman and Park Hae-min's flyout to right fielder, but Hong Chang-ki hit a right-handed hit and Shin Min-jae hit a left-handed hit to take a chance with two outs and runners on first and second bases. Then, Kim Hyun-soo hit a timely hit to the right, and second baseman Hong Chang-ki scored, allowing LG to follow one point.

In the bottom of the third inning, LG also had a left-handed hit by Park Dong-won and Moon Sung-joo walked to get two outs and runners on first and second base, but failed to score as Park Hae-min only struck out swinging. In the bottom of the fourth inning, LG brought two outs and second base chances, with Shin Min-jae getting on base with a left-handed hit, but Austin stepped down as a center fielder flyout and there was no score.

Hanwha's leadoff hitter Lee Jin-young got on base with a straight walk in the top of the fifth inning, but there was no income. This time, it was LG's turn to follow. After one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Oh Ji-hwan hit a superior solo home run, and LG chased one run. Oh Ji-hwan's fourth home run of the season and his 150th career home run. Oh Ji-hwan hit Moon Dong-ju's five-ball, 141km slider in ball count 1B 2S to draw a 122.3m-long arch.

In LG, Park Dong-won hit a left-handed hit and Moon Sung-joo also hit a right-handed hit to grab a chance with one out and runners on first and second bases. Hanwha put Kim Bum-soo on the mound instead of Moon Dong-joo, and Kim Bum-soo handled Park Hae-min with a groundout to second base, and Hong Chang-ki also escaped the crisis by catching him with a groundout to second base.

LG also replaced pitchers by putting Yun Ho-sol on the mound in the top of the sixth inning. Lim Chan-kyu threw 98 pitches in five innings, allowing four hits, three outs, and five strikeouts (two earned runs). Hanwha got a glimpse of the opportunity when Choi Jae-hoon walked on base after two outs, but failed to score as Lee Do-yoon was out on a ground ball to shortstop.

LG opened with a left-center hit by leadoff hitter Shin Min-jae in the bottom of the sixth inning, but failed to chase as Kim Hyun-soo struck out, Austin was out to right field, and Moon Bo-kyung was grounded out to first base. LG replaced pitchers in the top of the seventh inning. Following Yoon Ho-sol, who had one walk and no run in one inning, Baek Seung-hyun was put in relief. Hanwha deployed Oh Sun-jin as a pinch hitter when the leadoff hitter Jung Eun-won walked to base and carried out a bunt operation, but the runner's advance did not take place as Oh Sun-jin's bunt hit led to a catcher's foul flyout. Shortstop Oh Ji-hwan then blew and caught Noh Si-hwan's ball, threw it to second base, and outed the leading runner, making it two outs. Chae Eun-sung also stepped down with a groundout to third baseman, and Hanwha's attack in the top of the seventh inning ended without scoring.

Following Kim Bum-soo's one hit and no run during the first ⅔ innings, Hanwha put Joo Hyun-sang on the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning. The result is three-way exit. Oh Ji-hwan finished the at-bat with a fly ball to left field, Park Dong-won with a fly ball to second base, and Moon Sung-joo with a fly ball to left field.

LG fielded Kim Jin-sung in relief in the top of the eighth inning. Kim Jin-sung took over the baton of Baek Seung-hyun, who had one walk and no run in one inning. Hanwha aimed for an opportunity when Jang Jin-hyuk got on base with an infield hit to the first base after two outs. First baseman Austin blew his body, but it led to an infield hit. However, LG was able to harvest the last out count as second baseman Shin Min-jae caught Choi Jae-hoon's ball and threw it to first base.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Park Hae-min got on base with a left-handed hit and tried to break through the path once again, but failed to score again. Hong Chang-ki stepped down with a flyout to third baseman, and first baseman Park Hae-min tried to steal second base during Shin Min-jae's at-bat, but he poured cold water when he was tagged out at second base. That's how the runner disappeared, and Shin Min-jae's ground ball went into pitcher Joo Hyun-sang's glove, ending LG's attack in the bottom of the eighth inning in vain.

When Hanwha's attack began in the top of the ninth inning, LG put closer Ko Woo-suk on the mound. Ko Woo-suk pitched as relief pitcher in the top of the ninth inning with a 3-3 tie against Hanwha in Jamsil the previous day (2nd), but became a losing pitcher as he was sluggish with two hits and three outs and two runs in ⅔ innings. However, it was different on this day. Hanwha succeeded in stealing second base with Lee Won-seok on base with a walk after two outs, but failed to score as Noh Si-hwan was grounded out to third base and finished the attack in the top of the ninth inning.

The only thing left for Hanwha is to keep the two-point lead. Hanwha pitched two innings with one hit and no run, followed by closer Park Sang-won to the mound in the bottom of the ninth inning. LG pinned hope with Austin's hit to the right, but no follow-up hit occurred. Park Sang-won held his 12th save of the season by allowing one hit and no run in the first inning.

On this day, Hanwha won the game by scoring five runs just after five hits. Roh took the lead in the team's victory with one hit and two RBIs in four at-bats, including a double. On the other hand, LG had to accept its defeat as it only had three points despite hitting 14 hits in a long and short period. Shin Min-jae swung hard with three hits in five at-bats, but the team's defeat faded. Moon Dong-ju, who had nothing to do with the victory or defeat of the game, finished the season with eight wins, eight losses and a 3.72 ERA.

Meanwhile, Jamsil Stadium was crowded with 22,858 spectators on the day, failing to achieve the sell-out. https://www.sportstototop.com
