A lucky couple won a $2.4 million jackpot on MGM Grand Las Vegas' legendary "Lion's Share" slot machine. The machine won a huge jackpot just after 11 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22. One of the winners was putting $100 into the machine and betting up to $3 for about five minutes, when three long-awaited green emblems lined the jackpot center pay line horizontally.

"MGM Grand is thrilled to present this historic jackpot to the lucky winner of Lion's Share, and we couldn't be happier for the winners, their families and friends," said Scott Sibella, MGM Grand's president and chief operating officer. "This monumental event is another great example of why MGM Grand is an entertainment agency, and our goal is to bring the best Las Vegas experience to every guest."

The "Lion's Share" slot machine, the oldest relay machine on the MGM Grand casino floor, gained legendary status by relentlessly refusing to yield the best jackpot since becoming the only remaining "Lion's Share" themed game on the casino floor about 15 years ago. Over the years, it has become the most popular single slot machine on MGM Grand, which is on the floor of about 1,900 slots.

"Lion's Share" attracted fans on Facebook and elsewhere long before the hit. Internet bloggers posted maps of MGM Grand Casino floors and updated them regularly to tell them where their slot machines were as they moved on the floors. It's one of the few known standalone slot machines that deserves such significant cyber attention.

In February 2014, after the Wall Street Journal published an article by Rob Copeland about this old dormant period, the line of people looking for dots in the dormant period became much longer. Fans waited for their turn in the dormant season, cheering on their fellow enthusiasts. In the months that followed, news media organizations at home and abroad flocked to MGM Grand in hopes that "Big One" would become a hit while the cameras were moving.

"Lion's Share" is the only game left over from the entire network of $1 progressive slots that were installed on MGM Grand in the early 1990s. The machine dates the modern ticket-in-ticket system in advance. The collection of themed machines is custom-made and branded for the MGM Grand. Overall, there were 50 machines. Over the years, the resort has removed all but one. The floor leaders would have gotten rid of it, too, but no one hit its progressive jackpot, and it accumulated $2.4 million over the years. To ensure game regulation and game integrity, MGM Grand was able to replace the "Lion's Share" jackpot with another machine with the same or smaller name. The resort was not allowed to maintain accumulated jackpots.

MGM Grand is currently reviewing the regulatory requirements of the winner's residence to determine whether the winner is eligible to take the machine home. 슬롯머신
