"Coaches such as Yang Sang-moon (who had been leading the national team until last year) and Chung Geun-woo and Lee Dong-hyun will no longer be able to take charge of the national team due to schedule. I was also busy with my schedule, so I thought I would not be able to coach the national team. Recently, however, while having a conversation with the coaches, they said, "Isn't it a waste to quit what we have made for the past year?" That's why we thought hard about doing it again so that the women's baseball team could grow once more, and after much consideration, I applied for the position as a coach."
He was given more than a year of time. Hur vowed to raise a "left-handed pitcher." "After a year of experience in women's baseball, it seemed like a team that plays more games without making any errors wins. Strong team play seemed the most important thing," Hur said. "Last year, the Korean team lacked left-handed pitchers. If there is a left-handed pitcher, it is easier to keep runners in check who want to steal bases. We will recruit and nurture left-handed pitchers." As a result, left-handed players will likely undergo a pitching test.
There will be a match against an overseas national team that is like a warm-up match in August, and an Asian Cup where a ticket to the world stage will be at stake next year. Last year's national team consisted of veterans in their 30s and young players in their early and mid-20s. The new national team that coach Huh will select through the "national team selection match" to be held from the 23rd will be a team with well-established harmony.
"In order to achieve good results on the international stage, we need experienced veterans. However, we will not neglect to recruit and nurture promising players," Huh said. "However, this does not mean that we will select young players who are not good enough. If we select good talents and senior players lead us well and support us well from below, our team will become stronger."
